Insomnia Symptoms
Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009Insomnia effects millions of people every year. The cause of insomnia can be any number of things. It could be a person who is extremely stressed which leads to their inability to sleep, then when it is time for bed, the person may feel more stressed about not sleeping. A vicious cycle that can become chronic if not handled properly. As silly as it sounds, sleep deprivation can actually lead to insomnia.
There are three different types of insomnia that are based on how long the insomnia lasts. Some people may experience symptoms for a few days to a week, others may have symptoms for weeks or months, then there are those people that suffer insomnia symptoms for years. Insomnia may be different for each person. A person who only sleeps four hours may be getting a better quality of sleep, than a person who sleep eight hours, but wakes up often.
Insomnia symptoms may vary from person to person, but the most obvious is the inability to get a good quality sleep every night. Insomnia symptoms may include trouble falling asleep after going to bed, waking up and not being able to go back to sleep, or waking up too early. People who are experiencing insomnia may feel tired when they do wake up for the day. Other insomnia symptoms may include being grouchy, anxious and just a lack of energy throughout the day. A person who has been suffering insomnia symptoms for a long period of time may become depressed. Depression can add to the inability to get a good, quality sleep.
There are symptoms that may actually be caused by insomnia without a person even being aware of it. The inability to focus throughout the day is a symptom. Some people may suffer from impaired motor skills, or delayed reactions. The inability to concentrate on the task at hand is a sign that a person is not getting adequate sleep. These symptoms need to be taken seriously, because they can cause car accidents or other accidents at work or home. Hallucinations, blurred vision and other vision disturbances can also be associated with insomnia.
